Gomes da Silva Jr. was born
in Porto
Alegre, RS, Brazil in 1969. He received the Dipl. Eng. in Electrical Engineering from the Universidade Federal do
Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Porto Alegre, Brazil in
1992, the M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC), Florianopolis, Brazil in 1994 and the Ph.D. (”Doctorat en Automatique”)
degree from the Université Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France in 1997. In 1997 he joined the
UFRGS, where he is currently Full
Professor and Head of the Department of Automation and Energy. In
2011, he was Honorary Visiting Fellow in the University
of Leicester, UK. Since
2000, he is a researcher of the
CNPq/Brazil (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development). From 2013 to 2014 he was
General Coordinator of the Program Science without Borders at the CNPq. He is member of
the Conference Editorial Board of IEEE Control
Systems Society, and member of the
IFAC Technical Committee on Linear Control Systems
(TC2.2.) He was member of the Executive
Board of the Brazilian Automation Society (SBA) from 2008 to 2010 and is
currently member of its Council. His research topics includes: constrained control, time-delay systems, networked control systems, robust control and non-linear
systems. He is co-author
of more than 140 papers in scientific journals and conferences
and two technical
books on the field of control
systems.
